Biking is gaining popularity as a form of commuting. An estimated 3.2 million individuals are now bicycling to work in the U.S. at least once a week, an 100% increase since 1985. Free or inexpensive bikes are attracting hundreds of thousands of users.

Americans purchased more bicycles than new cars and trucks combined in the past year. Pacific Bicycle,the largest bicycle distributor in the United States. sold 5 million bicycles last year, ranging in price from $50 to several thousand dollars.
