New Agreements Address Water Safety in Latin America and Caribbean
Improving drinking water safety in the Latin American and Caribbean region is the focus of two new bi-lateral agreements between The International Water Association (IWA) and the Peruvian
Ministry of Health and the United States Department of State. Both agreements will support the ongoing development of a Water Safety Plan Network in the region. These plans provide for consistently ensuring the safety of a drinking water supply through the use of a comprehensive risk assessment approach that encompasses all steps in water supply from catchment to consumer.

Small Ecuadorian Clean Water Project Improves Health in Village
Agua Muisne constructed its first water treatment system in 2007 in Ecuador. It now uses water from a covered and protected well that is connected to an electric pump that sends the water through two filters and into a concrete cistern where the water is chlorinated to kill the bacteria.

A partnership between the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the European Union and the Government of Djibouti is paving the way for at least 25,000 of the poorest and most vulnerable rural residents of the country to gain, for the first time, access clean drinking water close to their homes.
