Small Ecuadorian Clean Water Project Improves Health in Village
Agua Muisne constructed its first water treatment system in 2007 in Ecuador. It now uses water from a covered and protected well that is connected to an electric pump that sends the water through two filters and into a concrete cistern where the water is chlorinated to kill the bacteria.

UNICEF, the European Union and the Government of Djibouti Partner to Provide Access to Clean Drinking Water for Djibouti's Poor
A partnership between the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the European Union and the Government of Djibouti is paving the way for at least 25,000 of the poorest and most vulnerable rural residents of the country to gain, for the first time, access clean drinking water close to their homes.

Professor McCarty’s work has led to more efficient biological treatment processes, in particular anaerobic (oxygen-less) treatment systems for municipal and industrial wastewaters, biological nutrient removal, and the development and use of biofilm reactors.

You Still Can't Drink the Water, But Now You Can Touch It
Laboratory filtration system kills 100 percent of dangerous microbes in water taken from Hurricane Katrina disaster.The system--safer, cheaper and simpler to use than many other methods--breaks down a range of toxic chemicals. While the method cleans the water, it doesn't yet make the water drinkable. However, the method may eventually prove critical for limiting the spread of disease at disaster sites around the world.

Africa’s Potential to Boost Drinking Water Supplies and Agriculture Underscored in Report by UNEP and the World Agroforestry Centre
The report concludes concludes that many communities and countries suffering or facing water shortages as a result of climate change could dramatically boost supplies by collecting and storing rain falling freely from the clouds.
