Barry S. Levy, M.D., M.P.H.

Barry S. Levy, M.D., M.P.H., is Immediate Past President of the American Public Health Association. He is also an independent consultant in environmental and occupational health and an Adjunct Professor of Community Health at Tufts University School of Medicine.

Dr. Levy has devoted his entire career to public health -- as a practitioner, educator, scientist, consultant, program director, and organizational leader. Most of his work has been in environmental and occupational health. He has been a medical epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control; a professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he founded and directed its occupational health program; and an international health program director. He has worked in more that 20 countries, primarily developing countries of Africa and Asia and countries in Central and Eastern Eruope.

Dr. Levy has written more than 100 published articles and book chapters and edited 14 books and monographs, including three editions of a textbook on work-related disease and its prevention; a book on international perspectives on environment, development, and health; and, most recently, the book War and Public Health.

He currently serves on the boards of APHA, the International Commission on Occupational Health, and the Alliance to End Childhood Lead Poisoning.
