Report Identifies Barriers, Offers Solutions to Water and Sanitation Service Delivery
Giving poor people a say in the water and sanitation services they receive, and allowing alternative documentation to prove residence are some of the simple solutions that can bring sustainable water and sanitation services to the hundreds of millions currently living without, according to a new report released on August 18, 2009 by the Water and Sanitation Program (WSP). According to UNICEF and WHO, 900 million do not drink safe water and 2.5 billion people live without access to improved sanitation, leading to millions of deaths every year, mostly of children under five.

World Water Day is an initiative started by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) and emphasizes the need for freshwater and sustainable management of freshwater resources.

Swedish Teenagers Help Educate and Empower Female Refugees in Rwanda
Some US$900,000 raised by Swedish teenagers is giving young female refugees in Rwanda the chance to become more independent and to lead productive lives. The funds pay for the primary and secondary school fees, books and uniforms and are used to school drop-outs by teaching them how to read and write and by providing classes in skills such as knitting, tailoring, hairdressing, cookery and handicrafts.

WASH Media Award competencia convocatoria de las entradas de los informes sobre el abastecimiento de agua, saneamiento o higiene
El Consejo de Colaboración para el Abastecimiento de Agua y Saneamiento (WSSCC) y el Instituto Internacional del Agua de Estocolmo (SIWI) copatrocinan la segunda edición del Concurso WASH de Periodismo, que abarcará el periodo que va de julio de 2007 a abril de 2008. Podrán participar los periodistas de países en desarrollo que publiquen o emitan reportajes de investigación originales sobre temas relacionados con el suministro de agua, el saneamiento o la higiene en sus países.

WASH Media Award Competition Appel de candidatures de rapports sur l'approvisionnement en eau, d'assainissement ou d'hygiène
Le Conseil de concertation pour l’approvisionnement en eau (WSSCC) et l’Institut international de l’eau de Stockholm (SIWI) coparrainent la deuxième édition du Concours WASH pour les médias, qui aura lieu entre juillet 2007 et avril 2008. Ce concours est ouvert aux journalistes des pays en voie de développement qui publient des articles ou diffusent des programmes d’investigation originaux concernant l’approvisionnement en eau, l’assainissement ou l’hygiène dans leur pays. Le concours WASH pour les médias participe à l’Année Internationale de l’Assainissement 2008.
