...CityKids uses the arts to engage and train young people to create positive and powerful solutions to issues impacting their lives. Young people learn to improve their own educational status, become agents for social change, take action in community projects, and carry positive messages to their peers. And they have a great time doing it. For almost 20 years, The CityKids Foundation has developed and operated innovative and successful programs that engage young people, support their development as individuals and citizens, and partner with them to create change in their own lives, their communities and the world. In our Leonard Street Center in downtown Manhattan, schools across the City and performance venues around the country, we bring together young people from different racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; challenge them to address difficult issues that affect youth; and partner with them to produce solutions filled with their energy and creativity. CityKids vehicles for communicating these issues include leadership training workshops and courses, original live musical and theatrical performances, community improvement projects, community-based workshops, leadership conferences and youth-directed and facilitated dialogue sessions.
