In the aftermath of a disaster that arrives as suddenly as the flooding in Pakistan did, the immediate impact—the deaths and the injuries—is usually followed by additional health risks caused by the difficult living conditions, the lack of hygiene, and the restricted access to clean water and basic health care services the disaster leaves in its wake.

A new risk assessment conducted by EPA based on recently submitted toxicity data indicates that aldicarb, an N-methyl carbamate insecticide, no longer meets the agency’s rigorous food safety standards and may pose unacceptable dietary risks, especially to infants and young children.

On August 5, 2010, a U.S. District court overturned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (FWS) decision to remove gray wolves in the Northern Rockies from the endangered species list. The court sided conservation organizations that sued to restore federal protections.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced on August  3, 2010  a final rule to list the yellow-eyed penguin, white-flippered penguin, Fiordland crested penguin, Humboldt penguin, and erect-crested penguin as threatened under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act).

A U.N. panel has declared the Florida's Everglades to be an endangered World Heritage site due to the wetlands' continued degradation, officials said on Friday, 30 July 2010.

"Safe and clean drinking water and sanitation is a human right essential to the full enjoyment of life and all other human rights," the General Assembly declared on July 28 2010. The declaration expresses deep concern that almost 900 million people worldwide do not have access to clean water.
